Outside of my research, I like building things for fun and writing about ideas I find interesting.
This page collects my personal projects and blog posts.
I've grown a deep interest in kamon (家紋 / かもん), the family crests often seen at castles, shrines, and temples from the bushi (武士 / ぶし) era,
throughout my 18 trips to almost every part of Japan. I wanted to see how such complex designs come from just a compass and a ruler.
This is an interactive page that breaks down twenty crests of the Sengoku-era houses into the compass-and-ruler strokes
they were drawn with, plus a workshop for designing your own.
